Comments and Civility

With our friendly local editor off on a Columbus Day vacation with wife and kids, it falls upon me to remind everyone that while this blog invites comments, it insists that the comments be civil. That means name calling will get a comment either edited, if whoever is reading feels like doing the work, or simply not approved in the site’s moderation process.Today I’ve bounced three comments entirely, something that’s never happened before – and edited a couple more. All viewpoints are welcome. All epithets are not.

But William “the bald” Charlton gets to say “scumbag” in his latest post. You’re like Fox news – “fair and unbalanced.”

Ed. Response – There’s a difference between his use of the word (recalling the infamous quote of Justine Bateman) and calling someone a scumbag. Also, as we’ve said, we do our best with stuff, and may miss some on occasion. We’d rather that everyone stopped making us scrutinize every word, and simply stuck with the issues.

Ah yes, Justine’s use of the word scumbag, as in “AFTRA is a scumbag union.”

Clearly an unfortunate turn of phrase, indicating a person not qualified or suitable to her position. Not even accurate, a “scumbag” actually being, well, you know. Justine is a saucy one.

But, the pathetic nature of the response, as in, “she called us a scumbag union!” Whaaaaa!

Repeat 4000 times. This is not a worthy talking point my friends. Even John McCain would tell you that.

  3. William Charlton says:

    yawn.
