So Much for the Boycott!!! – Updated!
Alec Baldwin wins at the SAG Awards in the category Outstanding Performance by a Male Actor in a Comedy Series, the first obvious sign that the Fisher forwards didn’t work, even with an Asner endorsement.
Sally Field wins for Outstanding Performance by a Female Actor in a Drama Series. That makes it two…Tina Fey dropped the only pointed line I’ve caught so far, smacking the AMPTP with a no new media residuals reference that no one in the room missed, but which may not have scored with anyone outside the union.
Alan Rosenberg choked through the thanks to other unions, effusive with the WGA, nice to the DGA, and, oh, yeah, AFTRA and the others. Considering the SAG Awards is produced under an AFTRA contract, and that SAG gets a waiver each year…Rosenberg did manage a plug for the Employee Free Choice Act, a nice touch. Variety weighed in on his performance:Â
“Rosenberg was met with polite applause when introduced and after concluding his two-minute speech at the Shrine Auditorium. He’s been a strong supporter of a strike authorization but had announced several weeks ago that he had disavowed a boycott of eight actors who had come out against the authorization.”
James Earl Jones was classy and awesome as usual.
Congratulations to all the winners.
