Usually We Think Salomon’s Right

But today the guy who brings us BlogStage is applauding the singing stylings of Alan Rosenberg. Go figure.

    “Dead bang serious?”

And comparing AR’s angry spew to Woody Guthrie?

What a terrible disservice to Alice’s Restaurant.

Salomon reveals that his is not a sophisticated palette, or even an accurate one.
    By any means.
    In any way.

    That HAS to be tongue-in-cheek.

Alice’s Restaurant was Arlo’s (his son), not Woody’s.
Woody walked the walk the few ever have – before or since.
The commentary HAS to be tongue-in-cheek.

I mean, of course, “AS few ever have.”

Alice’s Restaurant was Arlo Guthrie. The comparison to Woody is even more absurd. And from his intro, is not one I think even AR would make.

  6. A Completely Different Fred says:

I understand that the Guthrie comparisons have driven him to write on his guitar:

    “This machine kills union solidarity”

Sad to say, but the song is far closer in content to “My Way” than it is “Joe Hill.”

  7. GhostOfRalphMorgan says:

    Arlo, Woody–shucks.

    Alls I know’s he’s no Slim Whitman.

Put Rosenberg in a studio with a jugband and a chorus of yodelin’, then mebbe, jes mebbe, ya got sumpin’.

  8. vested says:

Yeah, I know ‘Alice’ is Arlo’s song. The line just worked better with that than it did with
    “This Land is Your Land.”

Should have stated that in the post.
    Sorry guys.

And you’re right, Ghost – he’s definitely no Slim Whitman.
