Uh Oh? (Yawn) White Revises Statement to The Wrap – UPDATED

The Wrap reports that NED David White has “retracted” his statement to the website issued in response to its article recycling Membership First claims that the National Board “wasn’t able” to have a full discussion of NED David White’s credentials and implying that because one of the investors in White’s former company was indicted, it somehow reflects upon White. The investor, Mark Dreier, is a New York attorney who allegedly was involved in some complex financial frauds.”

White, who was SAG’s General Counsel, left the union during Doug Allen’s tenure as NED. He formed a firm called Entertainment Strategies Group, in which Dreier was an investor.

The Wrap claimed that ESG “was shut down because of its ties to Marc Dreier” and that the National Board was unaware of the connection, which White had disclosed in a public statement in early December. White then issued a statement including these words:

“In addition to responding openly to questions asked about ESG and its investor, Marc Dreier, during the most recent Hollywood Board meeting, I shared this and other information about ESG with the National Board of Directors prior to its approval of my employment contract.”

Now the Wrap says that statement has been retracted, and replaced by ““I have had numerous discussions with board members and others on both coasts about my former business, ESG, including discussions specifically about ESG’s investor, Marc Dreier. However, during the extensive Q&A period at a recent Hollywood board meeting, I did not directly refer to Mr. Dreier…I fully appreciate that some may still have questions they want to ask about ESG and I intend to be open and proactive in addressing any questions, particularly those posed by SAG board members.”

Net difference; it wasn’t discussed at the Hollywood board. Which to the real world doesn’t probably mean much, but to the suddenly hysterical Wrap it seems to be a big deal.

The blog quotes Membership First’s Anne-Marie Johnson as saying, “This is not a witch hunt. It’s important to make the record straight.”

Update: There seems to be some embarrassment over  in Wrap-land about their initial story using the word “retract” and implying intense evil by the change. Some time after we pointed out it was really not a retraction but a relatively minor correction, the Wrap corrected its story (without any indication that it had changed it). The headline now reads “David White Amends Statement” and uses the term “revised” rather than retracted.

Without a trace of

Without a trace irony the revised Wrap concludes “One has to wonder if White’s second statement would have been necessary if the meeting had been available for all members to watch on the Internet.”

More appropriately: one has to wonder if The Wrap’s revision would have been necessary if the site weren’t devolving into another shoot first, as questions later version of the Drudge Report, by way of Barking Dog heaven.

Christ Matt, take your meds already…you lost. MF lost. SAG lost credibility, allies and all self respect.

    face it. it’s over.

“And by the way, a council is a group that governs something. A counsel is a lawyer.”

When I talked about retaining council (#33), I really was thinking about bringing a group that governs something into court with me. Just as a show of force. Is this plausible?

Somebody who posts here continuously needs to take a paragraph workshop.

It’s annoying to make each sentence into a separate paragraph.

It takes up a lot of space.

Sometimes I wish you needed a license to operate a computer.

    Marisa, (#50)

Tsk tsk tsk, there you go again….

You can’t tell Hacker you don’t agree with him. How is that possible?

He will keep beating you down with caps, asterisks, hectoring, obfuscation, lies, numbers pulled out of his ass, invitations to meetings he won’t show up at, false pleas for unity, ad mulherneum, until you DO agree. His is the ONLY opinion.

I guess he hasn’t yet learned the difference between opinion and fact. Hell, even informed opinion and his opinion.

You say “I don’t agree”. He hears “You’re wrong”.

Go on, now, be a good girl and tell him he’s right….

We had this right once with the buzzing noise.

  5. Matt Mulhern says:

O.K. – Marisa – enlighten me. How DOES Manhattan Plaza set rent rates? It has nothing to do with the rate being attached to the occupants income? I thought that was the whole point.

And please Marisa – enlighten me on how the SAG contract is a “good” contract. Just stick to new media residuals. I don’t want to confuse you.
    Please be specific.

  6. Neil Hassman says:

    Ouch, Andy…..from you, that hurts.

  7. Marisa Redanty says:

Matt: this is not a site for manhattan plaza…your characterization is way off..but i am not about to subject this site to this dicussion…sorry you lose.

the sag contract is very good…

    enough?

  8. Dr. Giggles says:

Can someone name one New Media “project” on the internet we can see right now…that was produced by the AMPTP?

For the record, we do need to seperate terms.

New Media = MADE for New Media …. MOVE OVER is about product made elseshere, such as TV then put on internet.

MOVE OVER was agreed to in the current negs by your pasl Alan, Doug, AMJ, Scott ands others…..

So- back to New Media. I’d like to see what an AMPTP New Media production looks like…..All I can find are stuff acotrs have made for themselves, or amatuers have put up on You Tube.

SAG has not signed one New Media project by the AMPTP. Why – because there is NO deal ….. AFTRA has a deal – so where are the projects by AMPTP Studios? Just want to see what the fuss is all about.

  9. Marisa Redanty says:

David #54 yes we should reinstate the buzzing noise

    Matt # 55…this is boring ….buzzzzzzzz

btw I love that steve diamond revealed that Ann Marie Johnson MUZZLED any VETTING of Steve Diamond for NED by the SAG National Board…speaks VOLUMES….doesn’t it?

Mattie…any comment on Queen Johnson’s MUZZLE POLICY???? No i thought not. Jeez why wouldn’t she let the national board question a possible candidate for NED? Hmmm maybe because the FIX WAS IN WITH DOUG ALLEN? Yep. And maybe all of them were in cohoots with the AMPTP to destroy SAG

…never know…it could be a fact….just something to think about…SAG is sure in some deep holes now and all of them dug by MF….maybe that was their plan all along…

No, sorry Redanty. It’s not enough you poor thing. Not nearly. I asked for specifics, you say “it’s a good contract.”

That’s pathetic. Even your own guy, David White said “this deal sucks.”

Did you talk to him about that statement at the last NY meeting?

Manhattan Plaza has a policy of rent that rises and falls with what the actors who are lucky enough to get apartments can pay. You’re doing well? You pay a higher rent. You’re sucking pond water? You pay a lower rent. I’d pretty much call the post by Redanty above a capitulation. And she’s the PRESIDENT OF THE BUILDING BOARD.

Also – Redanty – I’ve made more residuals than you’ve ever made as an actress, all of it – wages, residuals, combined. You need to stop with the completely out your a** statements.

  12. Funny Farm says:

    Marisa,

I hate to say it but you are owned right now. Take a break for a while. It’ll do you a world of good.

  13. Marisa Redanty says:

    Wrong Matt on all counts.

    every single sentance is incorrect.

  14. Tom Ligon says:

“David White said “this deal sucks.”
Did you talk to him about that statement at the last NY meeting?”

Yes – actually, he said “This sucks!”
And he was referring to the AMPTP’s change of the contract expiration date.

And I’ve worked more days than you’ve had auditions.

  15. Matt Mulhern says:

    Ligon
Revisionist history is the last refuge of dottering fools. David White said “this deal sucks” at the first “special national board meeting” It was sort of a “truth burp” shall we say, that he immediately, seeing the puzzled faces of the people who put him in office, UFS, vs. the applause of the rest of the people present, began to back and fill on.

But he said it, in a refreshing moment of clarity.

And I have no interest in your credits Ligon. I wish you and your wife well, but, give it a rest.

Funny Farm has been perhaps my biggest, most snarky critic. When even HE tells you to stand down, you might want to consider it.

  17. Funny Farm says:

    Matt,
I gotta hand it to ya, you did it, you’ve got everyone here eating outta your hand.

    Bravo

Now shovel the driveway before your wife gets home.

  18. Tom Ligon says:

    Hooey:
“And I have no interest in your credits Ligon.”

Then stop flashing YOUR meager assets at the ladies, little man.

  19. Marisa Redanty says:

David White said “this sucks” and was talking about the expiration date newly added. McGuire was in the room even when Fooball Doug was in charge so the deal wasn’t new. I mean do people actually think that the NED walked into the room and expected to be educated on the deal right there at the table LOL.
This is really not even arguing about because everyone knows it was the expiration date White was talking about because….that’s what he was talking about!!
    Now it’s getting boring…

  20. Marisa Redanty says:

Doctor Giggles asked a question that deserves an up or down answer to.

    He asked:
“Can someone name one New Media “project” on the internet we can see right now…that was produced by the AMPTP? ”

If it’s NOW Media….where’s the Now? Maybe it should be called Not Yet Media
