Membership First “Trojan” Says He Supports AFTRA Raiding Plan
Another of the Membership First “Trojan” candidates in the AFTRA Los Angeles election has endorsed the controversial SAG Hollywood resolution seeking to raid AFTRA. In a post on the Actor’s Access system, Robert Amico, running for delegate to AFTRA’s highest governing body, its convention, writes:
Sorry but you are reading it through Masur tinted glasses.Â
One of these days you will be able to think for yourself.Â
Whether you think so or not, many many actors think that SAG should represent ALL actors, especially in Hollywood.Â
The motion above is about exploring that concept…Â
I personally feel that the motion is exploring what the Hollywood membership wants….Â
You don’t like it, too bad!Â
You and your fellow lemmings have never been about democracy.Â
What “brown shirt” is!!!!
The post was a response to members who criticized the resolution which would put First VP Anne-Marie Johnson, who is also both suing SAG and running for the AFTRA board, in charge of a committee looking at how SAG can “acquire” AFTRA’s actors.
Here’s Jonathan Handel’s analysis, a post he calls “The Trojan Horsemen of the Apocalypse.”
Here it is again – Hollywood-centricty….these are members of our union – which represents members all of the country – that are only concerned what Hollywood members (and not a majority) think.
Are AFTRA members working on AFTRA scripted-TV shows going to accept this? The cannot simply swap contracts to SAG, this has been discussed here many times. If there was an effort to do that, the actos would be without any contract for over a year, it doesn’t just happen because of what a few militants want.
I say it’s clealy time for all members to stand up and have their voice heard. Do not vote against these clowns for AFTRA or SAG Board.
Talk about unmittigated gall! – AMJ and her team…suing SAG, suing fellow board members of SAG, leading battles against AFTRA and running for the AFTRA Board.
I hope AFTRA takes this as seriously as they did when Angel Thompkins tried to vilify AFTRA from within. They kicked her out of the union; and they should do the same against each MF that has approved this motion, for it is clearly agianst the welfare of AFTRA.
Their concern is not what’s best for members….
You have to give him points for consistency. Once again, anyone who challenges his opinion is automatically a “brown shirt.” This should go over so well at the AFTRA convention if he gets to go.
Jonathan Handel’s article is worth a click.
A very strong article from Jonathan, and definitely worth a read.
And, with his permission, it should be quoted and included on any website, information source and mail-out possible.
The First Cult MUST BE STOPPED NOW. SAG cannot afford to have this debacle continue any longer or the guild WILL disappear completely.
Do these putzes not realise that’s what they’re doing? The longer they cause discord and make the union stand still, the more likely the union will becaome impotent, then non-existent.
Better to be a “moderate” union than no union at all.
VOTE THEM OUT AND BE RID OF THEM FOR GOOD.
As usual, Handel gets it right. How anyone with any brains could vote for or defend this nonsensical resolution blows my mind. It’s inarguable that the idea is another ladle from the crackpot, but the wording is what truly shocks. The last phrases are so poorly written that I find it hard to believe that someone–anyone–didn’t pull this poor woman aside to help save her and the burnt-umber shirts from this embarrassment. (I figure as long as they’re making fun of my shirt, I should chime in on that as well).
MF aren’t brownshirts. Brownshirts (the SA) were mindless thugs who used clubs to beat people and break things. They were used as tools by the actual brains of the Nazi Party, and once Hitler took power, he had the SA leaders murdered in the Night of the Long Knives.
MF are Bolshevik wannabes. They think they’re going to take over various institutions and then reshape them to fit their ideology. However, unlike actual Bolsheviks, they don’t have the guts and the brains to carry out their plans.
Stuart,
It’s Robert Amico, the MF tool, who refers to all of his critics as brown shirts. It demonstrates that subtlety and attention to nuance that will make him such a valuable member of the AFTRA convention.
Fred,
Understood. I was addressing Pat’s reference to burnt umber. It’s also clear that Robert Amico’s friends aren’t related to Mussolini’s Black Shirts either — because certainly MF couldn’t get the negotiation train to run on time, on any of its tracks.
Let’s hope that the summer elections build something like the Czech Republic’s resurgence of democracy and prosperity under Vaclav Havel.
I suppose I should have said Paisley shirts to make sure the joke was clear.
Or Madras plaid.
Pat,
I like your choice of “Burnt Umber”; the least used crayon in the 64-count Crayola box.
But Madras Plaid would certainly make them easy to identify…
And you’re right; the Handel article is spot on, short and sweet, with all the appropriate links for those who missed the background.
PS to SAGWatch: Just wanted to say “Thank You!” for all the mind-numbingly hard work you’ve been putting into fixing the site after the crash… I would have posted earlier, but I didn’t want to add to your workload… Hence the “piggyback” message. You rock.
