Residuals Watch: They’re Bankrupt, But…
Variety reports that the Tribune Company has bought the rights to on air reruns of “Curb Your Enthusiasm†and “Entourage.†Ordinarily we wouldn’t spend much time on a story like this, but since the shows are to run on Tribune’s 23 stations in 17 markets, including New York, Los Angeles and Chicago, in strip form, it seems to run counter to the claim that the new TV-Theatrical contract would be the death of residuals.
And those are pay cable shows! The actors will do very nicely when they are played on broadcast.
And years down the line when “broadcast” distribution is commonly done via internet connection? Yeah, that $28 will come in real handy.
