ACTRA Deal Inked Early

The first thing you have to say is, “They’re not SAG.” The Canadian actors’ union, ACTRA, has ratified a new contract with producers six months before the expiration of the old pact, and did it with a 98% plus vote in favor.

According to Variety, the only change between the new deal and the old one is a 2 1/2% annual bump in rates. ACTRA took a two month strike in 2007 over new media.

AFTRA’s President Roberta Reardon offered a statement of congratulations. We haven’t heard anything similar from SAG…but then SAG President Alan Rosenberg isn’t allowed to speak on behalf of the union.

There is a good reason he isn’t “allowed to speak for the Union.”

    Ed. Comment: Without a doubt.
