Erik...We don't agree. In my opinion you are fabricating the event to serve your vote no side.

The meeting was informational for those who listened.

Scott Wilson talked about copyright law and NEVER made the connection as to why he was quoting it. Big deal he flew out to NY. He's trying to make a name for himself. I spoke to him after the meeting also. The guy has some philosophy of history he leaves out key issues that have great effect. A cherry picker like most Membership First Cult Members. Big deal he flew out. It impressed no one.

So, If you like the way they do things in Hollywood even with the fake open board meetings I think you should go there. Because in NY we would never try to fool the members with a pre rehearsed show.

I would love to debate another topic erik, but this one has become boring. You see a true debate has true exchange of facts as opposed to convenient spin. Otherwise it is a boring exercise.

Let's put an end to this.

Here's what did NOT happen at the meeting:

“Scott Wilson FLEW TO NYC for the meeting and was second on line, Some bozo tried through “point of order” to deny him the right to speak because he was from L.A. - the crowd SHOUTED this bozo down and the panel let Scott speak, and he made a cogent, rational argument for why giving up these rights and benefits and protections was definitely NOT in the best interest of the Screen Actors Guild going forward.”

Here's what happened:

A respected member of the New York acting community who has served the guild well for many years and in many ways, called for a Point of Order, asking (since Scott Wilson is NOT a New York member and since this was a meeting for New York members) if the Chair would rule on Wilson's right to speak BEFORE New York members (since Wilson had placed himself second in line).

Although a specific portion of the members present were obstreperous and disruptive throughout the meeting, neither they nor "the crowd" "shouted down" the member who asked the question. The Chair of the meeting - Sam Freed, New York SAG President - ruled that Scott could speak and could maintain his place in the line. The member who had asked then graciously acquiesced and bowed to the ruling of the chair.

Wilson then proceeded to read from a piece of paper an article about Copyright Law and then attempted to link it to the matters at hand and then left the microphone as the "crowd" reacted with benumbed silence.

Period.

End of controversy.

Oh, and Marisa and Tom,
HERE is ANOTHER review (NOT from a "MF" member) of what happened from ANOTHER BB:

"Scott Wilson FLEW TO NYC for the meeting and was second on line, Some bozo tried through "point of order" to deny him the right to speak because he was from L.A. - the crowd SHOUTED this bozo down and the panel let Scott speak, and he made a cogent, rational argument for why giving up these rights and benefits and protections was definitely NOT in the best interest of the Screen Actors Guild going forward."

I believe you know who the person is.

NO colusion AT ALL with this poster, as Im sure will be devishly spewed here.

2 separate reports of what happened.

Why don't YOU ask Scott Wilson HIS version of what happened as HE was the second party involved Ms. Redanty??????

Marisa,

YOU SAID
"Erik refuses to address it"

I've answered over and over.
Let it go. I'm not fabricating--and you are convinced you are not either.

It's a dead issue. Scott wanted to speak--and he spoke.
That USAN worker tried to challange that. PERIOD. The End.

You are obsessing on ONE issue.

(Look, I was on line at THAT time..I was about 3 people in front of HIM. I really DO NOT remember you in line. I thought you were in your seat, a few rows on front of ME.)

Yet it's YOU who have dodged many points I've made here.

Gutter? Your language seems to sometimes take dirty, nasty turns.
I hoped you'd have more class than that.

I'm not sure where all your anger and vitriol is coming from.

This vote will be over JUNE 9th.

VG and Erik..

i'm not saying that only letting those "affiliated with the Hollywood Division" is the usual practice in Hollywood.

However this sham of an "open hollywood board meeting" needs to be exposed.

Erik...argument over. I was there, I saw the member (three people behind me in line for the mic) and no matter how hard you try I will challenge your false depiction of events. I was there in the same line at the time. I will not ever let you get away with not telling the truth about this situation, Erik. Never.

Re: Hollywood and it's fake open board meetings? I don't know what the "usual practice" is but I'm just showing their language which can be envoked at any time. And Erik refuses to address it..Erik your posts are as transparent as cellophane.

Erik, I'm not going to engage you further on this subject if you refuse to tell the truth. Too many of us were there at the time. No more lies. Be a man and tell the truth. More respect will come your way. Right now...you're in the gutter.

Scott Wilson read from a piece of paper something about copyright law that had absolutely nothing about this contract or anything about actors. The members sat there silently stunned into confusion.

I corrected Alan Rosenberg on two counts. He said the new media terms of this contract means there will be "no residuals until the end of time." I asked the room if they REALLY believed that. Erik and his small crowd screamed "YES!"

Alan said that during Promotional Launch periods there are "no residuals whatsoever." I replied that in fact during Promotional Launch periods only series regulars give up residuals. Guest stars, dayplayers and everyone else including ADR voices get those residuals sooner than they would otherwise.

That's exactly what I said. Incoherent?

I have heard LA board members speak at Hollywood board meetings and at the Town Hall meetings I have attended. If there is a rule against it, the enforcement is pretty lax.

Attendance at Hollywood board meetings gives first priority to paid-up Hollywood members who have not attended a previous board meeting in the current board year. Those are the people who can get confirmed reservations to attend, and who get to eat pizza beforehand. But there is also a standby line for others who want to attend (who don't qualify under the attendance policy above). I would be very surprised if all standby people don't also manage to get in. I don't specifically know whether a non-Hollywood SAG member (i.e., someone from NY) would be turned away, but I would be surprised if so.

Marisa,

I can answer that one.

Everything a Hollywood actor says is automatically more important than anything a New York actor can say. Therefore there is never a reason to let a New York actor speak at a Hollywood meeting because they already know everything the NY actpr could possibly say.

Likewise, a Hollywood actor appearing at an NY meeting is automatically better informed and more knowledgeable than any of the local hobbyists so a Hollywood actor who deigns to appear at an NY meeting MUST be given the floor.

That was easy.
