Tea Leaf Reading, First Attempt

The new writer at the blog Andrew Salomon made famous, Espresso (formerly BlogStage) has his first item up, and it’s an interesting one. Daniel Holloway, the new National News Editor of Backstage, writes that the departure of NBC exec Ben Silverman may turn out to be a big plus for actors, because his successor, Jeff Gaspin, has a track record of bringing in new successful scripted shows – at least at Bravo.

Though Gaspin is known lately for his work in “reality” shows, Holloway writes Gaspin’s resume has more than a little success in scripted drama:

As chief of NBCU’s entertainment cable division, he oversaw the revitalization of USA as a home for critically and commercially successful scripted shows such as “Monk,” “Psych,” and “The Starter Wife.” As The New York Times pointed out, a new episode of USA’s “Burn Notice” drew 6.8 million viewers last week, more than double the audience NBC’s sitcom re-runs drew the same night.
