A Nice Surprise

According to the Associated Press, five weeks into a new TV season, three of the four top broadcast networks have bigger prime-time audiences than they had in 2008.

CBS is #1, with viewership up a stunning 22%. ABC is the only overall loser, with NBC suffering a bit from the Leno disaster at 10 pm.

Now the only question is whether the ratings increases can be translated into money. Advertisers are saying they expect to spend more, but haven’t been going for the demographics of broadcast, which tends to be older.
