Variety: Cassel May Go FiCor
According to Variety, Seymour Cassel is considering becoming a “fee paying non member” or what’s known as FiCor, in order to keep working despite being suspended by SAG for two years on charges of sexually harassing female staff members. It’s an amazing turn for someone who was harder-line-than-Membership First.
Because of the suspension, Cassel loses his Hollywood board seat, but his replacement will likely come from Membership First, so there will be no effective change in power in the union.
the correct term is “fee paying” non member, not dues

Admin. Comment – You’re correct, and we’ve corrected our post. Thanks.
And a suspension does not prevent him from working. An expulsion would prevent him from working. A suspension only prevents him from holding office and voting.
Whatever the suspension means if Cassel picks a FiCor Status over membership status he reveals himself to be a hypocrite. Membership never came First for Seymour.
An expulsion would NOT “prevent him from working”. That would be illegal.
“Financial Core” status is the ultimate in selfishness — a slap in the face to all Union members everywhere, and especially those within the Screen Actors Guild who sacrificed in the past. Shame on Cassel if he does this.
Where did you hear this? Is it substantiated?

Mod. Comment: As noted in the main article, the Variety story mentions this possibility.
You are right Mike, an expulsion does not prevent him from working. But it does prevent him from working under a union contract.

Admin. Comment – Actually, we don’t think expulsion prevents someone from working under a union contract. It merely prevents them from voting, including voting on the contract, or from holding office in the union.
Contrary to what you think Mike, Fi Core is not a selfish slap in the face. Obviously, Cassel would not go Fi Core to work any non union jobs and your assumption that any Fi Core performer does that is just not true. Some do it out of a sense of anger and frustration at the madness of some of SAG’s foolishness. Some do it as a protest. As long as any Fi Core performer continues to do only union work, for which he would be paid the going union rate, or negotiated rate, as I’m sure Cassel would, where do you see a slap in the face?
